How Long to Find A Date On Tinder:

If you’ve ever used a dating app before, you’ve probably wondered how long it would take you to get a date. Considering that Tinder, the most popular dating app in the world, has around 530 million total users I know I’m not alone in wondering how long it takes the average user to find one date from the platform. (datingadvice.com)

I remember downloading Tinder a good while ago and being surprised at how few dates I was able to go on, despite using the platform daily and having a fair deal of matches. I couldn’t help but wonder, “is this the common experience on Tinder?” So, curious, I set out to find an answer.

Assumptions We Make:

I’m going to have to make a lot of assumptions to find a number for how long to find a date on Tinder, and not just a true answer of it depends. These assumptions are made to get us as close to the answer as possible.

We are going to need to make the following assumptions:

  • You have a perfectly average match rate
  • You have a perfectly average rate of going on dates with your matches
  • You max out on the number of swipes that you make daily (on free subscription)
  • Match rates are equally distributed (Many people will have much higher rates and many much lower rates, but we must give a number, so we choose the average)
  • You use the app every single day
  • Your time for finding a date is the same for just downloading or having a long time (Many people will find it easier to match when first downloading), you don’t run out of potential matches, and your match rate stays constant
  • All percentages found are still current (May change over time, some sources a few years old)

How can we find out how long it takes to find a date on Tinder?

We can use the following equation to find out how long it takes to find a date on Tinder (on average):

How Long it takes to find a date from tinder (on average) =

Average Number of Tinder Matches Before Going on Date / (Match rate X Swipes/day)

So, if we can get the match rate, how many times you swipe a day and your rate of going on dates with matches we know how long it will take you to find a date from Tinder. Now we just must find those numbers to get a good answer.

What is the average Tinder Match Rate:

The average tinder match rate means how often you see someone, swipe right and they also swipe right on you. This tells us how often when you see someone you will match. The average tinder match rate is 1.63% according to datingzest.com.

This number is important because we need to know how often you will match with people. From this number, we multiply by the number of swipes you find out to determine how many matches you will have on average.

How Many Tinder Swipes a Day:

Someone swiping on ipad

Tinder allows free users between 50-100 swipes per day at the time of writing. Assuming an average of these two values, a typical user may be able to make around 75 swipes per day. Some will be only able to make around 50 while others will be able to swipe closer to 100.

For our estimation purposes we are assuming that you are swiping every single day with an average of 75 total swipes / day.

How Many Matches does a Typical Tinder User Get A Day:

We are assuming an average match rate of 1.63% and with 75 swipes a day estimate (could be 50-100 swipes), this would equal around 1.22 matches a day. Given this, we can assume that the average tinder user would get around 1.22 matches per day.

Average Number of Matches on Tinder before Date:

While every case will be different, the average person will need to match with around 70 people per date that they go on from Tinder. We can get this number by finding the total weekly dates from tinder in addition to the total weekly matches, from this we can approximate how many matches actually go on dates.

According to tinderpressroom.com tinder users go on 1.5 million dates per week, which means approximately 3 million people are on these dates since there are 2 people. There are around 30 million matches a day from tinder (datingZest.com), so this means 210 million matches per week.

Taking the 210 million people who match and dividing this by 3 million, this tells us that you will need to match with 70 people on average before you go on a date with one of your matches. This assumes an average distribution.

How Long to Find a Date on Tinder:

It takes around 57 days (about 2 months) to find a date on Tinder. This assumes an average distribution and doesn’t assume bumps that users will get from first downloading the app. Users may find better luck or worse luck than that but averaging the match rate and meetup rate we find this number.

This number also assumes you won’t run out of matches, and you swipe every day with 75 swipes / day. You may get a better or worse than average match rate and a better or worse than average meetup rate with your matches.

It is important to find the perfect date for you and to find someone who you think compliments you well. Your results will differ from this, but it can serve as a rough guide. If you want to get better results than this, a great way to improve your meetup rate is to offer fun dates (10 unique date ideas for college students).

An easy way to improve these numbers would be to improve your swipes per day by purchasing a premium subscription to Tinder. A great way to get more dates would be to use dating apps that are based around swiping on dates such as DAMB where users are encouraged to find dates that interest them.
